Thank you for your interest in joining us at Lewisham Council. We are an ambitious, vibrant and diverse London borough, from Deptford in the north to Downham in the south. Since the Mayor took office in May 2018, we have been working to a new vision for the borough set out in a bold and exciting Corporate Strategy. Lewisham is changing and it is a fantastic time to join us to give our children and young people, who make up 25% of our population, the best possible start in life.
We are on a journey of change in our Children and Young People’s directorate. We have made real, sustained progress in children’s social care as a result of a focused, corporately-driven improvement programme. But we know there is more to do. We are looking for a leader, a team player, who knows what outstanding social work looks like and has the skills, energy and experience to drive improvement. The post holder will work in collaboration with our schools to build on the already strong schools-led partnership Lewisham Learning to ensure high quality education for all children and young people in Lewisham. The new Executive Director will also have the opportunity to shape our developing early help offer and strengthen our edge of care services which are critical to improving life chances.
Lewisham has a proud history of innovation and pioneering. Our Young Mayor programme was the first of its kind and has since been replicated across London and beyond. Our staff-run youth service directly involves young people in its management and our trauma-informed approach to youth offending continues to lead regional and national best practice development for custody and resettlement into the community.
We look forward to welcoming a new leader to our senior team to drive forward improvement and make a real difference to communities in Lewisham.
Damien Egan, Mayor of Lewisham and Kim Wright, Chief Executive
